On our last trip to Tokyo in 2015, I noticed a lot more art popping up like I had in Los Angeles. Street Art in Tokyo is a little different however. Like the featured image, a lot of the art painted on walls is created as part of a community project. If you look closely, you find more graffiti hiding in and amongst the everyday. Most of the non-community are is tucked away in odd places or in the form of what in the US are referred to as “slaps” AKA stickers.
Random images from Shibuya
The above image was taken outside the main entrance of Tokyu Hands in Shibuya. The store is a little vintage hippy place that sells clothes and jewelry.
This is outside the other entrance to Tokyu Hands in Shibuya – it’s a little more professional looking, like it was commissioned. And no, I can’t read what it says.
Meguro
One of my favorite restaurants in Tokyo is Junkadelic – it’s awesome Tex Mex that I can’t get anywhere else but Texas. They have some great art inside but this mural outside is my favorite:
Akiba Art
The slaps in Akihabara are a little different. These are all hand drawn and laminated.
Look at Buttercup as an amazon! super cute!
Random Slaps and tiny graffiti
Most of these are from around the city – I didn’t keep good track of this set.
THE ROACHES!
Extras
I liked these because of the crafty touch
What do you think? Cool or no?
